The terms “autism” and “Autism Spectrum Disorder” (ASD) refer to a group of disorders of brain development. As the word “spectrum” implies, symptoms are varied and can range in type and intensity, although the most common symptoms often emerge between two and three years of age, and may include repetitive behaviors, problems with social interaction, and problems with verbal and nonverbal communication.
